Simetrica-Jacobs was commissioned to conduct a five-year qualitative and quantitative evaluation of a major girls’ educational project in Ethiopia, provided by the UK charity ChildHope and funded by the Department for International Development.
The work involved extensive survey data collection and analysis to assess the impact of the charity’s work on girls’ participation in education, their learning, and ultimately their progression through the grades to vocational and higher education and employment.
As well as outcomes, the project examined barriers to progression and preliminary indicators of behavioural change, as changes in attendance rates and attitudes to education.
Simetrica-Jacobs designed and applied a suite of surveys to collect data, at home and in schools, on indicators and conducted statistical analysis of these to assess impact and value. The results informed DfID’s assessment of value for money and funding for later phases.
